The Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic has proposed to extend the existing ban on the export of coal by road transport for an additional six months. This issue has been put up for public discussion as part of a new draft resolution of the Cabinet.

According to the proposed document, it is planned to prohibit the export of coal from the country via road routes (codes 2701 and 2702 according to the EAEU Customs Code) for a period of six months.

However, exceptions include the checkpoints "Irkeshtam-road" and "Torugart-road." The restriction will also not apply to JSC "Kyrgyzkomur," which is allowed to export solid fuel across state borders.

The Ministry of Energy is confident that such measures have already demonstrated their effectiveness. As a result of the introduced restrictions, the country was able to fully meet its domestic coal needs in 2025 and avoid a shortage of this resource.

The authors of the initiative emphasize that these measures will help regulate supplies and cover the shortage of solid fuel, as well as prevent coal smuggling and ensure transparency in budget revenues.

It should be noted that a temporary ban on coal exports has been in effect in Kyrgyzstan since June 21, 2025, which was introduced for six months.
