According to information from the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis, there has been a slight decrease in the coverage of children with preventive vaccinations against poliomyelitis in Kyrgyzstan from 2020 to 2024.

According to the center, the republic continues to take active measures aimed at maintaining the status of a country free from poliomyelitis. Significant attention is paid to both planned and catch-up immunization, monitoring the conditions for vaccine storage, and raising public awareness about the importance of vaccination. However, recent data indicate a worrying trend.

To ensure herd immunity and prevent the possible importation or re-emergence of the poliovirus, vaccination coverage must be at least 95 percent. Currently, vaccination rates in the country are below the recommended level, which increases the risk of disease outbreaks.

Poliomyelitis is a disease that can lead to lifelong paralysis and even death.
Experts strongly recommend following the vaccination schedule of the Kyrgyz Republic and receiving all necessary doses of the poliomyelitis vaccine.
