Over 1,000 deposits registered in the republic

Currently, more than 1,000 deposits belonging to 51 categories of mineral resources are registered in Kyrgyzstan, according to information provided by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Among these minerals, one can find precious and non-ferrous metals, coal, hydrocarbon resources, and rare earth elements. The ministry emphasized that these resources are crucial for the development of sectors such as industry, energy, construction, and road repair.

Of the total number of deposits, about 400 are at the stage of industrial development or are undergoing geological exploration and pilot industrial work. Approximately 600 other sites are temporarily suspended — some due to depletion of reserves, while others require reassessment or the introduction of new extraction technologies, as noted by the agency.

“It is important to note that since gaining independence, geological exploration has not received due attention. However, thanks to the support of the current president, in 2024, 1 billion soms was allocated to the State Enterprise 'Kyrgyzgeology' for the purchase of new mining equipment as part of the implementation of the national project for the extraction of polymetals and rare earth elements. It is planned to utilize 72% of these funds in 2024–2025,” the ministry added.

It is reported that from 2021 to 2025, over 191 billion soms have been received in the country's budget from mining companies. From January to September of this year, 42.7 billion soms in taxes and mandatory payments were collected, which is 16 billion soms higher than the figures for the same period in 2024.
