An initiative to combat harmful products has been launched in Kyrgyzstan
The Deputy Minister of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic, Choro Seyitov, announced that prices for alcohol, cigarettes, and sugary drinks may double.
According to him, the government is working on increasing excise taxes on products considered harmful, including alcohol, tobacco, and high-sugar beverages.
“The main reason for these measures is concern for the health of citizens, as tobacco, alcohol, and sugar cause serious harm. The healthcare system cannot solve this problem on its own, which is why we are taking a comprehensive approach. In many countries, increasing excise taxes and other economic measures help limit access to harmful products,” emphasized Seyitov.
He also added that a significant increase in prices for alcohol, tobacco products, and sugary drinks is expected in Kyrgyzstan as early as next year. According to him, the cost of these goods may rise by 1.5 to 2 times.
