Bal - a Sweet Drink among the Kyrgyz

Bal (sweet drink)

Popular among the Kyrgyz, bal is a sweet hot drink made from honey with the addition of black ground pepper, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and bay leaves.

Ingredients:

honey 125 g.
cinnamon 25 g.
cloves 4 g.
ginger 4 g.
black pepper (whole) 0.05 g.
bay leaf 0.05 g.
water 1 l.

Preparation method:

Add ginger, cinnamon, cloves, pepper, and bay leaf to boiling water. After it boils, remove from heat, cover tightly with a lid, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Then add honey, stir, and strain.

Serve hot in bowls or glasses.
