The Japanese agency Kyodo reports that at the end of August, a translator fled while being part of a group led by the president of the Academy of Social Sciences of North Korea, Thae Hyun Chol, during their visit to the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar.

Although the name and position of the translator remain unknown, Kyodo suggests that their social status may be high, considering the strict restrictions imposed by Pyongyang on foreign travel.

Additionally, the agency noted that following this incident, Pyongyang replaced its ambassador to Mongolia, which may indicate possible responsibility of the diplomat for the escape, although no direct connection between these events has been established.

The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to an inquiry regarding this matter, stated that it cannot provide comments.
