The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints supports Mongolians in their desire to learn English.
During the 2024 Festival of Lights in Washington, D.C., the Ambassador of Mongolia met Elder Neil L. Andersen for the first time.
On October 22, the Ambassador of Mongolia to the USA, His Excellency Batbayar Olziidelger, was received at the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
At the Church administration building in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was greeted by Church President Dallin H. Oaks and his counselors, President Henry B. Eyring and President D. Todd Christofferson, as reported by The Church News.
The visit of Ambassador Batbayar Olziidelger concluded with a dinner hosted by Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
As an honored guest, he first met Elder Andersen at the opening of the Festival of Lights at the temple in Washington last December.
Thanks to their collaboration, Latter-day Saints were able to raise funds to purchase and distribute 3,000 Chromebooks among Mongolian students.
“[Ambassador Batbayar] noted in Ulaanbaatar that Mongolians have the opportunity to learn English and have the necessary resources; however, in some provinces, they need support. They require access to online learning,” Elder Andersen shared. “Electronic opportunities have become a significant blessing for many communities, addressing a real need.”
Recently, Elder Andersen posted on social media about his visit to Mongolia in September.
“The Church is already established and is gaining strength. The word of the Lord is being heard, and all who wish can hear it,” he said in his video address.
Elder Andersen noted the joy and enthusiasm of Church members in Mongolia when they learned about the construction of the first temple in their country.
Missionary work in Mongolia began in 1992 with six pairs of missionaries who taught at universities and high schools, as well as shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with interested individuals. The first two Mongolians to embrace the faith were baptized in 1993.
The first branch of the Church in Ulaanbaatar was established in 1994.
Currently, there are about 13,000 Latter-day Saints in Mongolia, gathering in approximately 25 congregations.
President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to build a new temple in Ulaanbaatar on October 1, 2023.
