Intense fighting continues in Rio de Janeiro between law enforcement and drug cartels. According to Reuters, the death toll has exceeded 70 people.

These clashes are occurring against the backdrop of a large-scale operation by Brazilian security forces against organized crime, timed to coincide with the upcoming global climate summit COP30.

Recently, more than 2,500 police officers, including special forces, were deployed to densely populated areas such as the Alemão and Penha favelas. The target of the operation is the "Red Command" (Comando Vermelho), which controls several key areas of the city.

In response to the actions of the security forces, criminals opened fire, began using FPV drones with explosives, and blocked roads. Rio's mayor, Eduardo Paes, stated that all services would continue to operate and that authorities would maintain decisive actions. At the same time, Governor Claudio Castro expressed dissatisfaction with federal authorities for refusing to send military forces for assistance.

Local residents report that public transportation has been disrupted due to the conflicts, and taxi prices have significantly increased due to high demand. In some parts of the city, shops and restaurants are closed.

According to authorities, this operation is the largest in the region's history. Checkpoints have been established on the streets of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the latest information, at least 60 people have died in the clashes, including four police officers, and more than 80 people have been detained.
