In Kyrgyzstan, there is once again a shortage of tramadol — a medication necessary for treating severe chronic pain syndrome. This was reported by the Association of Palliative and Hospice Care.

According to the association, the main reason for this situation lies in the insufficient calculation of the population's needs, which leads to inadequate availability of medications both physically and economically.

“The medication enters the country through two distributors; however, due to the lack of accurate accounting of needs for outpatient and inpatient patients, a significant portion of tramadol is destroyed this year due to expiration and non-use. Pharmaceutical companies refuse to supply it as they incur losses. There are international standards and methods for calculating needs, but unfortunately, no one is engaged in this work,” the association comments.

Association representatives also emphasize that often, within the framework of government procurement, medications are purchased that are then not fully utilized by medical institutions and are subject to write-off.

“To rationally use budget funds, it is necessary to regularly monitor the movement and use of medications in hospitals. When excesses or long-term storage of medications, whose expiration dates have not yet passed, are identified, they should be redistributed among hospitals and regions where shortages are observed,” the association's experts believe.
