The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan has announced the start of the health month 'Be Responsible!', aimed at identifying risk factors for non-communicable diseases among men over 18 years old.
As part of this campaign, men are advised to visit primary healthcare institutions for preventive medical consultations.
The results of the previous campaign were impressive: over 973,000 men across the country underwent screening for non-communicable diseases. Of these, 119,600 (12%) were found to have elevated blood pressure. Additionally, 49,600 men (5%) were at risk for cardiovascular diseases, and 60,800 men (6%) were at high risk of developing diabetes.
In 2025, 15,388 people were registered for the first time with a diagnosis of hypertension, and 7,364 with a diagnosis of diabetes. That same year, cardiovascular diseases were the cause of 16,644 deaths among the adult population of the country.
This initiative was first launched in 2019 as part of the project 'Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan', which is funded by Switzerland. Currently, the health month is held annually under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) include chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes. The main preventable risk factors include unhealthy diet, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and low physical activity.
The project 'Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan', funded by the Swiss government, aims to improve the health and well-being of the population of Kyrgyzstan by ensuring equal access to quality primary healthcare services and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The project covers the entire country.
