The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced a significant discovery on the shelf of the Atlantic Ocean, near the mouth of the Niger River. This information was published in a press release on the company's official website.
According to the NNPC statement, in collaboration with Chevron Nigeria, the project operator, work has been successfully completed on the exploratory well Awodi-07, located in shallow waters in the western part of the Niger Delta. "The results of the well drilling are encouraging as they confirm the presence of hydrocarbons in several layers," the press release states.
The work was conducted in the Gulf of Guinea, where the water depth is 12 meters. The well was drilled to a depth of 3,700 meters, and several oil-bearing layers with a total thickness of about 205 meters were discovered during the drilling.
NNPC specialists are expected to provide estimates of oil reserves at the new field in the near future.
