After completing the tests, Petro Matad successfully put the Gazelle-1 well into operation.

According to the latest data, oil production in Mongolia increased by almost 2% due to the launch of the second well by the British exploration company Petro Matad in October.

In its update from Wednesday, Petro Matad reported the start of production at the Gazelle-1 well, which achieved an initial flow rate of 200 barrels of oil per day after the installation of surface facilities.

The oil extracted from Gazelle is sent for processing and export to the neighboring block XIX, which is operated by PetroChina.

According to a previous presentation by Petro Matad, in 2022, the average daily oil production in Mongolia was 11,745 barrels, with 95% of this output coming from blocks XIX and XXI, operated by PetroChina, and primarily directed for processing in China.

Petro Matad also reported that oil from Gazelle-1 is being processed for export under an agreement with PetroChina.

According to information, the average production volume of the company's first well, Heron-1, in its first year of operation was 164 barrels per day, during which 298 deliveries were made to the processing facilities of block XIX, totaling 59,920 barrels of crude oil.

The production trends at Heron-1 align with the overall performance of Mongolia's hydrocarbon basin, where approximately 145 barrels are currently produced per day. Petro Matad noted that current figures are comparable to the results of the best producers in the region.

The company also reported on the restoration activities at its third well, Heron-2, aimed at starting commercial production after the completion of acid washing in August.

This procedure was aimed at improving oil flow and increasing oil recovery; however, difficulties arose: about 640 barrels of injected fluid remained in the subsurface.

Petro Matad noted that the temporary pumping installations at Heron-2 proved to be more effective than the previous ones, managing to collect about one-third of the remaining injected fluid, which mainly consisted of flow stimulation fluid with an increasing oil content.

Nevertheless, an unexpected decrease in fluid flow to the surface was noted, which may indicate a mechanical problem in the well or blockage of the perforation holes.
