The Central Bank of Mongolia purchased 2829 kg of precious metals in October

In the current month, the Darkhan-Uul branch of the bank purchased 722.6 kg of precious metals, while the Bayankhongor branch acquired 1532.9 kg. As a result, this is 10.3% less than in the same period last year.

The Central Bank of Mongolia sets domestic prices for precious metals based on international market quotations. In October 2025, the average price of gold was ₮466,000 per gram.

Economic experts emphasize that fluctuations in global gold prices, domestic production volumes, and changes in exchange rates have significantly impacted gold purchase volumes. Notably, 2020 recorded the highest annual level of gold purchases in the last six years.

The purchase of gold plays an important role in Mongolia's strategy to strengthen official foreign currency reserves. The country's bank acquires gold from local mining companies, individuals, and organizations, and then exports it abroad for refining according to international standards, which contributes to the increase of the country's foreign currency reserves.
