“Now we can serve and store not only our own gold but also the gold of foreign clients”
Recently, a ceremonial opening of the new building of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan took place in Bishkek, attended by the country's president, Sadyr Japarov.
In his address to those present, Japarov emphasized that the National Bank is an important symbol of Kyrgyzstan's sovereignty, established since the moment of gaining independence.
“After 1991, when we became independent, one of the first steps was the creation of our monetary and credit system. During this challenging period, the National Bank was able to lay the foundations for the economic development of the state. A particularly significant date was May 10, 1993, when our national currency – the som – was introduced. This event marked the beginning of our economic independence,” the president noted.
The president also spoke about the difficulties Kyrgyzstan faced regarding gold storage and noted that the opening of the new building of the National Bank radically changes the situation.
“Previously, the conditions for gold storage were extremely unsatisfactory. Now we have the largest storage facility that meets international standards, capable of holding up to a thousand tons of gold. We can now not only store our own gold but also accept gold from foreign clients,” he added.
The new building, opened today, has become an important symbol of the national currency and the heart of the country's financial system. It embodies the trust of the people, the more than 30-year history of the National Bank's operations, and the hopes of future generations. Important decisions affecting the economic development of Kyrgyzstan will be made here.
“The strength of our state is not determined solely by gold reserves but also by the trust of the people, the rule of law, and the ability to improve the lives of citizens. The National Bank must be the guardian of these values,” Japarov concluded.
