More than twenty years of waiting have come to an end: The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic has opened the doors to a new modern building designed to withstand earthquake forces of up to 12 points.

The Deputy Chairman of the NBKR, Mels Attokurov, noted that the building project was developed in 1986, and its transfer to the bank's balance occurred in 2002. However, for a number of reasons, construction did not begin for many years. Only two years ago, at the initiative of President Sadyr Japarov, the work was launched.

“There was an urgent need for a new building. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the National Bank did not have its own building specifically constructed for its needs. The previous building did not meet modern requirements. The new building fully complies with international standards, consists of ten earthquake-resistant blocks, and can withstand earthquakes of up to 12 points. It is also equipped with modern storage facilities that meet global standards,” added Attokurov.

According to the Deputy Chairman of the NBKR, the complex is designed for 274 employees. The old building of the National Bank will continue to be used for housing technical equipment.

“This building cannot be compared to ordinary social institutions. Information about its cost is not disclosed, as it is confidential,” emphasized Mels Attokurov.
