At the opening ceremony of the new building of the National Bank in Bishkek, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, stated that the som is now one of the most reliable currencies in Central Asia, reports IA "Kabar".
He noted that May 10, 1993, went down in history as the day when the national currency, the som, was introduced into circulation, marking the beginning of the country's economic sovereignty and a source of pride for the Kyrgyz people.
According to the president, the National Bank has set an important task for itself - to ensure the stability of the som, which directly affects the lives of citizens and the well-being of families.
Sadyr Japarov also mentioned that the National Bank has endured many trials over the past decades, including inflation, financial crises, a pandemic, and global economic changes.
“Nevertheless, during each of these challenging periods, the organization demonstrated resilience and high professionalism,” he added.
Today, according to the head of state, the som continues to be one of the most stable currencies in Central Asia. He emphasized the need to develop the economy in accordance with modern requirements, strengthen the work of the National Bank, and implement new technologies. In particular, the implementation of the digital som project will be an important step forward, which will enhance the security and speed of payment systems and make financial services more accessible to citizens.
