During the opening of the new building of the National Bank in Bishkek, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, noted that the som today ranks as one of the most stable currencies in Central Asia.

The head of state recalled that May 10, 1993, was a significant day when the national currency, the som, was introduced into circulation. This event laid the foundation for the economic independence of the country and became a source of pride for the Kyrgyz people.

He emphasized that one of the key priorities of the National Bank is to ensure the stability of the som, which, in turn, affects the life of every citizen and the well-being of their family.

Sadyr Japarov also pointed out the numerous challenges that the National Bank has faced in recent years: from inflation and financial crises to the pandemic and changes in the global economy.

“Nevertheless, during each of these periods, the bank demonstrated high resilience and professionalism,” he added.

The president stressed the need to adapt the economy to modern conditions, the necessity of developing the National Bank, and implementing innovations. One of the important steps in this direction will be the digital som project, which will increase the security and speed of transactions, as well as make financial services more accessible and convenient for citizens,” concluded the head of state.
