Experts suggest organizing tourist gold mining in Kyrgyzstan.
Experts propose organizing tourist gold mining in Kyrgyzstan. This idea was voiced today during a round table discussion titled “Small Mining Business - A New Area of Development for the Country” by the head of the consortium of experts on the development strategy for the mining industry, Valentin Bogdetsky.
According to him, such practices are applied worldwide. Attention is also suggested to be paid to artisanal mining of minerals. Kyrgyzstan has many deposits that are not of interest to large companies but could bring income to small enterprises.
“The government needs to legalize small-scale mining entrepreneurship. At the same time, local authorities should establish a fund for deposits in this sector. These deposits should be inaccessible to foreign investors. The current regulations in Kyrgyzstan are unfeasible for small-scale mining in terms of financial contributions, project design, and compliance with occupational disease prevention. For example, the same contributions are required from both ‘Kumtor’ and a small deposit,” emphasized Valentin Bogdetsky.
