Mongolia and the UN CBD Secretariat Join Forces to Promote the Country Ahead of COP-17

As part of its activities, the planning group is responsible for coordinating the "Agreement with the Host Country," signed between Mongolia and the UN CBD Secretariat. The main focus will be on organizational issues for the upcoming conference, including internal logistics, reception of delegates, and promoting Mongolia on the international stage.

The State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia, Batbayar Shurenchuluun, met with representatives of the UN CBD Secretariat to discuss preparations for the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-17), scheduled to take place in Ulaanbaatar from August 17 to 28, 2026.


During the discussion of the joint work program of the group and state institutions of Mongolia, Batbayar emphasized the need to pay special attention to issues requiring mutual agreement this year.

Representatives of the UN CBD Secretariat highlighted the importance of involving various groups in COP-17, including children, youth, local communities, herders, civil society organizations, and the private sector. The Secretariat also confirmed its readiness to provide financial support to ensure their participation.

The group will conduct a five-day working visit to Mongolia, where it will present its report to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, as well as to the National Organizing Committee for COP17, developing a detailed work plan for the upcoming year.
