Today is United Nations Day

Today, October 24, the whole world celebrates United Nations Day.

This date has been observed globally since 1948. In 1971, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution recommending that member states celebrate this day as an official holiday.

This significant day was chosen for a reason: it was on October 24, 1945, that the UN Charter came into force, marking the establishment of this organization. Its main task is to promote peace and security on the planet, as well as to strengthen cooperation among states.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, the UN has expanded its range of tasks, adding new priorities not specified in its Charter. Among the most significant are the Sustainable Development Goals, which focus on combating poverty, protecting the environment, improving the quality of life, and expanding opportunities for all people on Earth.

Mongolia became a member of the UN in 1961 and has since actively participated in peacekeeping missions. The country supports the Sustainable Development Goals and makes a significant contribution to maintaining peace in its region. Since 2002, the Armed Forces of Mongolia have participated in UN operations, sending more than 20,000 of its servicemen to 12 different missions.

Every year, UN Day reminds the whole world of the importance of the values of peace, unity, and shared responsibility.
