In Bishkek, there are currently more than 500,000 personal vehicles, - the mayor of the capital

As of today, more than 500,000 personal vehicles are registered in Bishkek. This was reported on October 21 during a multilateral dialogue on combating air pollution from transportation in the country by the mayor of the capital, Aibek Junushaliev. During the discussion, the mayor noted the absence of catalytic converters in some vehicles, which raises concerns about their impact on the ecological situation. “We believe that the issue of installing catalytic converters is one of the key aspects that needs to be addressed. We propose to install them on personal vehicles as needed. Currently, we are conducting research. A new batch of catalytic converters has recently arrived, and we have begun installing them on vehicles. If the results are positive, we will promote their installation on older models,” Junushaliev said. In addition, the mayor of Bishkek touched on the topic of updating public transportation. “We have practically phased out all vehicles running on diesel and other types of fuel. Today, we have more than 1,400 buses operating on gas fuel, as well as 120 electric buses that have already started their operations. We expect to receive additional gas-powered vehicles soon with the help of international organizations,” he added.
