Today, November 5, snow is falling in most regions of Kyrgyzstan; however, this phenomenon is not observed in Cholpon-Ata, which is quite natural for this region.
The climate of Issyk-Kul, in particular, is characterized by the large water body of the lake retaining heat. The warm air rising above the water surface contributes to an increase in the surrounding temperature, which, in turn, prevents snowfall.
A unique microclimate has formed on the shores of Issyk-Kul: it is warmer here in winter and, conversely, cooler in summer. This explains why snow in Cholpon-Ata and nearby areas appears later than in other places.
Clouds carrying snow most often come from the directions of Tyup, Ak-Suu, and Jeti-Oguz. As they approach the lakeshore, these clouds either dissipate or change direction due to the warm air rising from the water.
