On March 3, the mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, held a meeting with local residents at the sediment reservoir located in the Manka-Zhar ravine.
According to information from the mayor's office, during his visit, the city leader stated that currently, no sediment processes are expected in this area, and the weather conditions pose no danger to residents and urban infrastructure. The situation is under constant monitoring by the relevant city services.
“In 2023-2024, we faced flooding in the vicinity, and some expressed doubts about our ability to address this problem. However, thanks to coordinated and timely actions, we managed to avoid flooding in 2025. During the work, 6,000 tons of waste were removed, and the new sediment reservoirs can hold up to 42,000 cubic meters of water,” the mayor noted.
It should also be emphasized that the Bishkek mayor's office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, is implementing a set of measures to prevent flooding. In particular, two dams designed to combat flooding in the Manka-Zhar gorge have been cleared, with a total volume of 1,615 cubic meters. Additionally, two sediment reservoirs have been constructed in the villages of Lower and Upper Orok on Semetey Street - Motuke Uulu Jakypbay, and fencing of the adjacent area has been completed to enhance the safety of residents.
Previously, heavy rains had caused flooding in residential areas such as "Archa-Beshik," "Zher-Intymagy," and "Orok." To date, thanks to the measures taken, more than 260 houses have been protected from potential flooding and its destructive consequences.
Local residents thanked the mayor for the work done, noting that the measures taken have significantly increased the level of safety and peace in the region.
As a result of the meeting, Aibek Junushaliev instructed to ensure the cleaning of the irrigation network within residential areas and to complete all planned works within the established deadlines.
