
Kyrgyz judoka Erlan Sherov has won a gold medal at the Ljubljana European Open-2026, an open European judo cup held in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. This was reported by the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports.
The competition took place from February 14 to 15.
A total of 513 athletes from 45 countries participated in the tournament.
In the weight category up to 90 kg, Erlan confidently passed all stages of the tournament. He managed to skip the first round thanks to a bye.
In the 1/16 finals, our athlete won against Belgian Karl Fubert, and in the 1/8 finals — against Lithuanian Augustas Slizerinets. In the quarterfinals, he was stronger than Frenchman Eniel Kearoli, and in the semifinals, he defeated Egyptian Abdallah Abdelsameh.
In the final match, Sherov triumphed over Russian David Karapetyan, thus claiming the title of tournament champion.
Kyrgyzstan was represented at these competitions by three athletes: Erbol Abasbekov (up to 66 kg), Khanbolot Yrysbekov (up to 66 kg), and Erlan Sherov (up to 90 kg). The team was led by head coach Erkin Ibragimov and senior coach Azat Kubakaev.
