Dance - "In the Ala-Too Mountains"
IN THE MOUNTAINS OF ALA-TOO (ALA-TOODO)
The proposed stage version of the dance was created by choreographer U. Sarbagishev to the music of composers A. Maldybaev and M. Abdrayev. It consists of three parts: a temperamental fast section performed by young men, a lyrical moderate section performed by young women, and a general dance of girls and boys.
The musical meter of the first and third parts is 2/2, and the second part is 4/4.
The dance involves thirty-two people — sixteen young men and sixteen young women.
Costumes of the performers
Girl's costume.
Headwear (kunduz berk), dress (keynek), vest (chyphtama), chest ornament (alatamak), trousers (dambal), shoes.
The dress is made from light fabric: nylon, silk, tulle, batiste; three ruffles are sewn onto the hem and sleeves.
The vest is made from dense fabric: velvet, corduroy, wool. The decoration includes appliqué, tambour embroidery, or painting.
The chest ornament made from mesh weaving of beads or fringe from metal is worn around the neck.
Trousers are made from light soft fabric.
Footwear is made from leather, with a medium wide heel.
The headwear is made from velvet; the decoration is made from leather. The top is adorned with a sultan made of feathers.
Men's costume.
Beshmet, trousers (shym), shirt, headwear (kalpak), belt (kemer), boots (etuk).
The beshmet is made from wool, cloth, corduroy, velvet, and is decorated with tambour embroidery or appliqué made from brocade or satin.
Trousers are made from wool, corduroy, or velvet. The shirt is made from silk, satin, brocade, calico, or staple.
The headwear is made from white felt or thin wool; the brim is trimmed with black velvet (red, blue, or green colors are possible).
The belt is made from leather, decorated with Kyrgyz ornament.
Boots are made from leather, decorated with appliqué from colored leather or painted with bronze (aluminum).
Description of the dance
First part. "Dance of the Young Men".
The young men are positioned backstage at the corners of the stage, four people each.
1-4 measures of introduction.
5-8 measures
The young men ("movement 1") move towards the center of the stage along radii (see Fig. 125). The movement is performed sixteen times.
Hands are on the belt buckle (see Fig. 126).

9-14 measures
They form small circles with "movement 2" (see Fig. 127). The right hand is raised upwards, as if swinging a whip, the fist is clenched. The left hand is near the belt buckle. The head is raised. The movement is performed twelve times (see Fig. 128).

15-16 measures
The young men, continuing to move in small circles, gradually form a large circle. The movement is performed eight times. Hands are on the belt buckle.
17th measure
Continuing to move in a large circle, they perform four small jumps on the right leg. The hands are extended forward, as if holding the reins of a galloping horse (see Fig. 129).

18th measure
Continuing to move in a large circle, they perform four small jumps on the left leg. The right leg is half-bent (attitude forward). The right hand is raised upwards, as if swinging a whip, the left hand is on the belt.
19-22 measures
Repeating the movements of the 17th and 18th measures twice, the dancers gradually form a large circle (see Fig. 130).

23-24 measures
The young men "movement 3" walk in a large circle. They hit their right hand on their knee and move it in a semicircle (see Fig. 131, a, b).

25-30 measures
The young men walk in a large circle, forming four diagonals by the end of the 30th measure with "movement 3".
31-32 measures
The young men, performing "movement 3", walk along the four diagonals facing the lower left wing (see Fig. 132).
33-38 measures
They dance in place without moving along the diagonals "movement 4" (see Fig. 133).

39-40 measures
With the same movement, they turn over their left shoulder, aligning the lines. In the final formation of the dance, the young men face the right wings (see Fig. 134).
While in lines, they perform eight jumps with their legs tucked in. The dancers imitate galloping: with the right hand during the jump, they make a circular movement, as if driving a horse with a whip, while the left hand "holds the reins" (see Fig. 135).

They stop on their toes, with hands extended forward, as if holding the reins of a horse.
The dancers of the first and third lines "movement 4" move towards the right wings, while simultaneously the dancers of the second and fourth lines retreat back to the left wings (see Fig. 136).

47-48 measures
The dancers of the first and third lines retreat back to the left wings with the same movement, while the dancers of the second and fourth lines move towards the right wings (see Fig. 137).

49-50 measures
Performing the same movement, the dancers form four lines.
51st measure.
The young men perform a "revolted" through the left leg, starting with the right leg, bringing their hands to the floor (see Fig. 138).

52-55 measures
Eight cabrioles with the left leg bent.
56th measure
The young men kneel on their left knee, bringing the right leg forward in a circle.
57-60 measures
Sitting on the left knee, they perform sixteen times only the movement of the arms, bending and stretching them at the elbows (see Fig. 139).

61-64 measures
Repeating "movement 5" four times, the dancers seem to be trying to stop the horse (see Fig. 140).
65-66 measures
Performing a turn to the right (a full circle), they stop in the pose shown in (see Fig. 141).

Second part. "Dance of the Young Women"
1-2 measures
The young women, positioned in the lower left and upper right wings with eight each, come out one after the other (four steps, starting with the left foot). The young men are in lines. Then the young men turn around themselves over their left shoulder (hands on the waist) and sit on the floor: the right leg is crossed over the left, squatting deeply on both legs, gradually lifting their heels off the floor and spreading their knees. The body is straight, with an imaginary komuz in their hands (see Fig. 142).

3rd measure
Moving in lines, the young women perform "movement 6" (see Fig. 143, 144). The movement is performed while turning over the left shoulder.

4th measure
The young women continue to perform "movement 7", moving in lines (see Fig. 145).

5th measure
The young women, performing "movement 8", move forward facing the direction of the dance (see Fig. 146, a, b).

6-7 measures
They repeat the movements of the 5th measure twice.
8-9 measures
They repeat the movements of the 3rd and 4th measures.
10-12 measures
They repeat the movements of the 5-7 measures.
13-17 measures
The young women go around those sitting on the floor with "movement 9" (see Fig. 147, a, b).

18-22 measures
The young women walk with their left shoulder towards the right wings with "movement 10", then to the left. Simultaneously, the young men stand up and move towards the left wings with "movement 11" and exit the stage (see Fig. 148, 149).

23-26 measures
Continuing to move towards the right wings, the young women perform "movement 12" ("step from the heel", see Fig. 150).
27th measure
one-two A short jump on both feet in the 6th position. The hands are extended in front, as if holding the reins (see Fig. 151).
three-four A short jump with a turn towards the left wings on the toes of both feet in the 6th position. The hands are in front.
28-31 measures
The young women, performing "movement 12", move towards the left wings eight times.
32nd measure
one-two A short jump on both feet in the 6th position. The hands are in front,
three-four A short jump with a turn towards the right wings. The hands are in front.
33-37 measures
The young women perform "movement 13" ("twist") in place. The hands are down. In measures 35-37, they raise and lower their hands (see Fig. 152).

38-40 measures
The young women make a full turn with "movement 8" (see Fig. 153).
41-42 measures
A full turn to the right.
43rd measure
The young women kneel on their left knee. The hands are extended to the sides and lowered to the knee through the 3rd position (see Fig. 154).

44th measure
Pause.
Third part. "General Dance".
1-4 measures
The young women, sitting on their left knee, perform a rotating movement with the wrist of their right hand. Each movement is performed on 1/8 measure.
Simultaneously, the young men move from the side left wings with "movement 1" along the lines and approach the young women from behind.
The young men perform sixteen jumps (see Fig. 155, 156).

5-8 measures
The young men lift the young women onto their right shoulder and turn to the right for the second circle (see Fig. 157).

9-12 measures
The young women perform eight jumps with their legs tucked in to the right. The young men perform eight claps, starting their movement to the left (see Fig. 158).

13-17 measures
All dancers perform "movement 14". The young women move diagonally towards the lower right wing, while the young men retreat back to the upper left wing (see Fig. 159, 160).

18-19 measures
The young women, standing in place, stomp with their right foot and perform a rotating movement with the wrist of their right hand.
The young men, standing in place, perform eight claps (see Fig. 161).

20-21 measures
The young women repeat the movements of measures 18-19. The young men run up to the young women and take them by the left hand with their left hand, and around the waist with their right hand, and move with "movement 15" ("Galloping", see Figs. 162, 163).

The young women and young men move in a counterclockwise circle and at the end of the 29th measure line up with their backs to the audience (see Fig. 164).

30-33 measures
The young women move to the back of the stage with "movement 15" and line up in one line facing the audience. The young men form a large circle, performing "movement 16" ("rolling up sleeves"), and stop facing inward (see Fig. 165).

34-35 measures
The young men turn to the right with their right foot and kneel on their left knee facing out of the circle. The left hand is directed to the floor, the right hand is open back (see Fig. 166).

The young women, performing a rotating movement with the wrist of their right hand away from themselves, slowly raise their hand up (see Fig. 167).

The head is turned to the right.
36-37 measures
The young men turn back to face the circle on their right leg and kneel on their right knee. The right hand is down, the left hand is open back (see Fig. 168).

38-41 measures
The young men move in a counterclockwise circle with "movement 17" (see Figs. 169—171).


At the end of the 41st measure, there is a pause.
The young women repeat the rotating movement with the wrist of their left hand. The head is turned to the left.
42-49 measures
The young men form two diagonals directed from the upper right wing to the lower left wing, performing "movement 18" (see Figs. 172—174).

Simultaneously, the young women raise their hands to the right, performing a rotating movement with their wrists. The head is turned to the right (see Fig. 175).

50-51 measures
The young men transition from one diagonal to another with "movement 19" (see Fig. 176).

Simultaneously, the young women extend both hands to the left and turn their heads to the left.
52-53 measures
The young men, holding hands, perform four squats while turning (see Fig. 177). The young women repeat the movement of measures 50-51.
54-55 measures
The movements of measures 50-51 are repeated.

56-57 measures
The movements of measures 52-53 are repeated.
58-61 measures
The young men line up in four lines with "movement 20" (see Figs. 178, 179).

The young women raise their hands straight in front of them, performing a rotating movement with their wrists. The head is straight.
62-65 measures
The young men move forward with "movement 21" (see Fig. 180).
The young women repeat the movements of the arms from measures 58-61.
66-69 measures
The young men perform "movement 4". The young women run down to the front of the stage (see Fig. 181).

70th measure
The young women take steps to the right on their right foot, raising their left hand above their head in the 3rd position, and opening their right hand to the 2nd position. The head is turned to the left shoulder.
Simultaneously, the young men repeat the movements performed by the young women, holding their hands (see Fig. 182). In total, four short steps are performed in one measure.
71st measure
The movements of the 70th measure are repeated with the left foot to the left side.
72-73 measures
The young women perform four jumps with their legs tucked in to the right. The young men perform four claps, starting to the left.
74th measure
The young men lift the young women up (see Fig. 183).

75th measure
The young men lower the young women.
76th measure
Final pose of the dance (see Fig. 184).

Description of movements
Movement 1.
Performed on 1/2 measure.
Musical meter —2/2.
Starting position —2nd position, half-squat on toes.
one Two short jumps on toes. One hand is raised upwards (as if driving a horse with a whip), the other is extended in the 1st position forward (as if holding the reins). All movements are performed lightly, with low jumps. The movement is repeated several times in succession.
Movement 2.
The movement takes half a measure.
Musical meter —2/2.
one A step with the left foot, placing the right foot on the heel in a non-turned position.
and Sharply turn the foot of the right leg outward and simultaneously step with the left foot fully. Raise the right hand upwards (whip motion), the left hand — to the 1st position (holding the reins).
Movement 3.
Musical meter —2/2. one
Step three times (starting with the right foot) on toes, holding the left leg at the knee of the right leg. With the right hand, describe a semicircle from right to left with a clap on the knee. The left hand is on the waist, near the buckle.
two Step three times on toes, starting with the left foot, holding the right leg at the knee of the left leg.
With the right hand, describe a semicircle from left to right upwards with a clap on the knee of the right leg.
Movement 4.
The movement takes half a measure.
Musical meter —2/2.
Starting position —6th position of the legs, body bent forward, arms in the 1st position (as if holding the reins).
one Extend the left leg forward with a sliding motion on the toe, simultaneously squatting on the right leg.
and Extend the right leg forward with a sliding motion, simultaneously squatting on the left leg.
Movement 5.
Musical meter —2/2.
one Step with the right leg to the side, extend the left leg to the side on the toe, jump on the right leg. Extend the arms to the left, turn the head to the left,
two Two jumps on the right leg, maintaining the initial position of the arms.
Movement 6.
Musical meter -4/4.
one Step with the left leg in a half-squat, bend the right leg and raise it forward (attitude). Raise the right hand to the 3rd position, the left hand — to the 1st position. Turn the head to the right shoulder.
two A small jump on the left leg in a half-turn against the direction of the clock.
three Repeat the movement performed on "two".
four Repeat the movement performed on "three". By the end of the measure, complete a full turn (against the clock) and return to the starting position.
Movement 7.

one Step forward on the right leg in a squat, bend the left leg and raise it back (attitude).

Movement 8.

one-two Steps on low toes alternately with the left and then the right foot. Sharply squat on the right leg. Press the left leg, bent at the knee, against the knee of the right leg with the toe. Simultaneously perform the "spinning" movement (twisting of the arms) in the 3rd position twice, then lower the left hand down along the body, fixing the right hand in the 3rd position. Turn the head to the left shoulder.
three-four Repeat the movements performed on "one-two".
Movement 9.
Performed: in one measure two movements.

one-two Three steps on low toes, starting with the left foot, sliding the right foot forward on the heel. Raise the arms up, bending the elbows twice and extending forward, as if rolling wool.
Turn the head to the right.
three-four Repeat the movements performed on "one-two", starting with the right foot.
Movement 10. "Step from the heel".
Performed: in one measure two movements.
Musical meter —4/4.
one Place the left foot forward on the heel, the right foot — on the full foot,
two Place the left foot from the heel to the full foot and simultaneously bring the right foot to the left foot in the 6th position,

Movement 11.

two Step on the right foot, extending the left leg to the side on the heel.
Simultaneously with the count of "one", raise the right hand to the 3rd position with the palm up, open the left hand to the 2nd position with the palm down. The movement is repeated.
Movement 12.
Performed on 2/4 measures.
Musical meter —4/4.
one Place the right foot on the heel,
two Place the right foot from the heel to the full foot and simultaneously bring the left foot to the right in the 6th position. Simultaneously with the count of "one", move the right hand in a circle and fix it in the 3rd position; raise the left hand with the palm clenched into a fist to the 1st position, as if holding the reins. The movement is repeated.
Movement 13. "Twist"
Musical meter —4/4.
one A small step with the left foot, place the right foot in the 6th position on the toe. Raise the right hand to the 3rd position, the left hand is lowered along the body.
two Lower the right hand down along the body,
three Repeat the movement on "one", stepping with the right foot. Raise the left hand to the 3rd position, the right hand is lowered along the body, four Repeat the movement as on "two", the left hand is down. The "twist" movement is performed smoothly. The head turns towards the raised hand.
Movement 14.
Musical meter—2/2.
one A small step with the left foot, place the right foot on the toe in the 6th position. Extend the arms forward in the 1st position, as if holding the reins.
two A small step on the full foot of the right leg, place the left foot on the toe in the 6th position. The arms are in the initial position.
Movement 15. "Galloping"
The movement is performed on half a measure.
Musical meter —2/2.
one Extend the right leg forward low above the floor and jump while transitioning onto it. Bring the left foot to the right in the 6th position.
The "galloping" movement can also be performed with the other leg.
Movement 16. "Rolling up sleeves"
Musical meter —2/2.
one-two Four small jumps on the left leg, pressing the right leg with the toe to the knee of the left. Simultaneously raise the right hand up, while rolling up the sleeve with the left hand.
Movement 17.
Performed over four measures.

1st measure
one Step with the left leg into a squat, bend the right leg, raising it back in attitude. Raise the right hand to the 3rd position with the palm up, the left hand — to the 1st position with the palm away. Turn the head to the left.

2nd measure
one A small jump on the left leg. Step with the right foot from the toe into a half-squat, bending the left leg and raising it back in attitude. Raise the left hand to the 3rd position with the palm up, the right hand— to the 1st position with the palm away.
Turn the head to the right.
two A small jump on the right leg.
3rd measure
one Stand on the toes of the left leg, pressing the right foot with the toe to the knee of the left, the leg in a non-turned position. Bend the body down, raise the arms up, behind. Stand on the toes of the right leg, pressing the left foot with the toe to the knee of the right leg, the leg in a non-turned position. The body and arms maintain the previous position.
two Stand on the toes of the left leg, pressing the right foot with the toe to the knee of the left leg, the leg in a non-turned position. The body and arms maintain the previous position.
4th measure
one Stand on the toes of the left leg, pressing the right foot with the toe to the knee of the left leg, the leg in a non-turned position. The body and arms maintain the previous position.

Movement 18.
Musical meter —2/2.
one Stand on the toes of the left leg, pressing the right foot behind the left with the toe under the knee in an outward position. Hands — on the waist.
two Step on the right foot on the foot, opening the left foot on the heel. Simultaneously with the step, open the right hand to the 3rd position with the palm up, the left hand — to the 2nd position with the palm down. The movement is also performed with the other leg.
Movement 19.
Musical meter —2/2.
one-two Two young men, holding each other's right hands, extend their left legs diagonally towards each other and make four small jumps on the right leg in place. The left hands of the dancers are open in the 3rd position with palms up. On the next measure, the young men switch places.
Movement 20.
Performed two movements in one measure.
Musical meter —2/2.
one With a sliding motion, open the right leg to the side on the toe, slightly jumping on the left leg. Hands — on the waist, head turned to the right. Then perform the movement with the other leg.
Movement 21.
Musical meter —2/2.
one Step on the toes of the left leg, pressing the right foot with the toe to the knee of the left leg. Step on the toes of the right leg, pressing the left foot with the toe to the knee of the right leg.
two Step on the toes of the left leg, pressing the right foot with the toe to the knee of the left leg. Pause.
At the beginning of the movement, the hands are on the waist, at the buckle.
At the end of the measure, quickly raise the right hand up to the 3rd position and sharply, with a clap on the knee, lower it down.
The movement is performed with the other leg.
