Lake Ai-Kyol
Moon Lake
On the northern slope of the Turkestan Range lies Lake Ai-Köl, which translates to "moon lake."
The area of the lake is 0.82 sq. km. It is located at an altitude of about 3000 m, surrounded by sheer cliffs and boulders, making access to the lake quite challenging. The shores of the lake are steep cliffs that cannot be approached, so it can only be glimpsed through small passes in the foothills. One of these passes offers a place to rest or camp for the night.
In summer, due to the inflow from two streams, the water level in the lake rises significantly, while in winter it decreases.
Lake Ai-Köl is a true treasure hidden in the high mountains, captivating and enchanting with its beauty and inaccessibility. The best time to admire this beautiful lake is from April to September, as from March to October, Ai-Köl is covered with silvery ice, turning into a genuine gemstone that adorns the surroundings. Few people in the world have seen this treasure hidden high in the mountains. The lost places, concealed from human eyes, possess colossal energy.

These places are lost, marked conditionally on maps. The lake is located in the border area of Kyrgyzstan, in the southern part of the country, in the Batken region. The nearest city is the administrative center, Batken. When heading here, it is important to inform relatives and the rescue service. It is necessary to take a compass, a supply of food and water on the journey. One should also prepare a warm jacket, sleeping bag, tent, and comfortable shoes. The mountains are very attractive but equally treacherous; one must never lose vigilance.
