The cities of district significance include: Razzakov, Aydarken, Kadamjay, Kok-Jangak, Kerben, Kochkor-Ata, Toktogul, Cholpon-Ata, Kara-Suu, Nookat, Uzgen, Kemin, Orlovka, Kainy, Shopokov, Shamalty-Say, Bazar-Korgon, and Gulcha.
According to the legislation, mayors of cities of district significance are appointed by the akim, while the mayors of Bishkek, Osh, and regional cities are appointed by the president.
According to data published by Turmush in August 2025, as of August 5, 2025, the average age of mayors of cities was 39-45 years.
As of today, the youngest mayor in Kyrgyzstan is Zhanish Raimjanov, who took office on June 27, 2025. He was born on April 26, 1996, in Mailuu-Suu, located in the Jalal-Abad region. In 2018, he graduated from Osh State University and the Academy of Public Administration under the President, obtaining a degree in economics.
Zhanish began his career as a leading specialist in the information support sector of the Osh Territorial Department of the Fund for Mandatory Health Insurance, where he worked from November 2, 2017, to December 13, 2019. He then held the position of chief specialist in the office of the presidential representative in the Jalal-Abad region from December 12, 2019, to January 19, 2024, and later served as deputy mayor for communal issues in the Jalal-Abad city administration until September 4, 2024. From September 5, 2024, to June 27, 2025, he worked as the head of the office of the presidential representative in the Jalal-Abad region.
