Akims are appointed and dismissed by the president based on the recommendations of the chairman of the cabinet of ministers, taking into account the opinion of the presidential representative in the region.
The akim also has the right to appoint and dismiss the heads of local executive bodies of self-government in rural districts and cities of regional significance.
The mayor of the capital appoints akims for the four districts located in Bishkek.
Turmush has prepared an overview of the youngest akims in Kyrgyzstan. Currently, the youngest akim is the head of the Kadamjai district — the most populated district in the Batken region.

As part of the administrative-territorial reform, the number of rural districts in the Kadamjai district has decreased from 13 to 8.
This district includes two cities of regional significance: Kadamjai and Aydarken.
The Kadamjai district is the most densely populated district in the Batken region, with a population of 209.9 thousand people according to the latest census. This district is among the six most densely populated districts in Kyrgyzstan.
