Kamo shared his life story in an interview with a Turmush correspondent.
Kamo, born in 1965 in the Armenian city of Jermuk, was named after Simon Arshakovich Ter-Petrosyan, known by the nickname Kamo. “My father was a big fan of his work and often showed me a film about him,” he recalls.
When he turned four, his family moved to the Issyk-Kul region, where his parents, who worked as miners, were employed in the Sary-Jaz expedition. After finishing school, Kamo served in the Soviet army from 1984 to 1986, and then began his career in the mining industry, but soon started trying his hand in various fields.
Two years ago, Kamo retired and returned to his favorite hobby—creating flower stands. “My wife loves flowers, and I decided to make special stands for her. Gradually, acquaintances began to ask if I was going to sell them, and I decided to give it a try,” he shares.
He currently creates items from wood and metal, each taking about 3-4 days to complete. He obtains materials for his work when friends ask him to trim trees in their gardens. He sells the stands for 2500 soms at the "Slavic Bazaar" in Karakol.
In addition to his craft, Kamo leads an active lifestyle, running in the park and heading to his native Sary-Jaz mountains on his motorcycle. Once, he bought a motorcycle from a French traveler who used it for trips across Asia.
“Sary-Jaz is an incredibly beautiful place. I miss it, as it is where I spent my childhood. Every time I get on my motorcycle and head to the mountains, I remember those times. These landscapes fill me with a special energy,” he says.
Recently, he took his wife to these mountains. “She was absolutely thrilled, saying she had never seen such beauty,” he shares.
Kamo describes his family life as happy—he has two sons and a loving wife who supports his hobbies.
