Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Mahabat Mavlyanova raised the issue of possible cases of illegal import of seedlings into Kyrgyzstan that have not undergone phytosanitary control during a meeting of the "Mekenchil" deputy group on January 30, 2026.
She expressed concerns that some planting material may be entering the country through smuggling, which creates risks for the spread of pests and diseases. “Is there any control on your part?” she asked the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Zhanibek Kerimaliev responded that the ministry is strengthening its efforts in this area and increasing the number of nurseries. “Recently, we increased the number of nurseries. Our phytosanitary inspection actively checks border posts for certificates and conducts inspections for disinfection and fumigation,” he reported.

However, Mavlyanova noted that the problem is not limited to planting material but also affects the circulation of chemical substances in the regions. “In some places, chemical substances are sold without the appropriate certificates. This requires control. Perhaps you lack specialists in rural areas,” she added, suggesting to strengthen work at the level of local self-government bodies.
