Livestock production as of March 1, 2015

Meat Production. During the reporting period of 2015, economic entities of all categories in the republic produced 55.6 thousand tons of meat in live weight, which is 888 tons or 1.6% more than the corresponding period of the previous year. The increase in meat production occurred mainly due to an increase in the number of agricultural animals, except for pigs, as well as due to the provision of preferential loans to the livestock sector in 2014 amounting to 4,177.0 million soms, which constitutes 78.0% of all preferential loans issued to agriculture.

According to the livestock and poultry accounting data as of the end of 2014 presented by the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, the number of cattle was 1,458.3 thousand heads, which is an increase of 54.2 thousand heads; sheep and goats amounted to 5,829.0 thousand heads, an increase of 187.8 thousand heads; and horses totaled 432.9 thousand heads, an increase of 25.6 thousand heads.

It should be noted that all regions of the republic produced more meat than in the corresponding period of 2014.

Milk Production. In January-February 2015, milk production in the republic amounted to 147.3 thousand tons, which is 2.7 thousand tons or 1.9% more than the same period of the previous year. Milk production increased in all regions of the republic, except for the Talas region, where milk production decreased by 114 tons compared to the same period last year, totaling 9,177 tons. The growth in milk production in the republic was influenced by an increase in the number of cows. According to the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, the number of cows in the republic increased by 25.8 thousand heads, totaling 744.3 thousand heads.

Egg Production. During the reporting period, the republic produced 48,686 thousand eggs, which is 1,761 thousand eggs less or 96.5% of the corresponding period of the previous year.

Egg production increased in 6 regions of the republic, except for the Issyk-Kul region, where egg production decreased by 5,809 thousand eggs during the reporting period, amounting to 33.8% of the level of the corresponding period of the previous year. Among the districts of the region, a sharp decline in egg production was observed in the Issyk-Kul district, where egg production decreased by 5,884 thousand eggs, or 18.4% of the level of the corresponding period of the previous year.

According to the information from the Agricultural Development Department of the Issyk-Kul district, the egg production figures in the district were affected by the decline in egg production at the poultry farm OJSC "Shumkar," with the main reasons being: 1) a shortage of feed vitamin and mineral additives, which are imported from abroad; 2) a sharp decrease in laying hens by 139,287 heads. If in 2014 the total number of hens at OJSC "Shumkar" was 244,671 heads, then as of January 1, 2015, it was 74,200 heads; 3) a significant tax debt of the poultry farm amounting to 143.0 million soms.

The lack of vitamin and mineral additives also sharply reduces the egg production of laying hens.
