Ministry of Agriculture: Suusamyr Pastures Are Experiencing Overgrazing Due to Pressure from Several Regions
According to her, Suusamyr is an important pasture for the Chui, Talas, Jalal-Abad, and Naryn regions.
“Summer grazing attracts farms from the Sokuluk, Moscow, Jayil, and Panfilov districts, as well as from the Talas, Jalal-Abad, and Naryn regions, including the Kochkor district. The livestock population here significantly exceeds the capacity of the pastures,” Kilyazova noted.
She emphasized that the shrub of caragana plays an important role in ecosystems, but its spread in pastures should be limited.
“Caragana should grow in places where it helps to strengthen slopes and riverbanks, preventing erosion. However, pastures need to be dominated by vegetation suitable for grazing,” she believes.
Kilyazova also reminded that in the past, the fight against caragana in pastures was conducted systematically and in stages.
“Previously, the population would independently cut down caragana, using it for heating and making brooms. During the Soviet period, large areas of pastures were regularly treated with alternating sections, ensuring livestock access to grasses,” she explained.
According to her, complete destruction of caragana is impossible due to its powerful root system and ability to reproduce both by seeds and roots.
“Caragana cannot be completely eliminated — it can only be controlled. If we reduce its influence mechanically or by other means, it opens access to grasses, allowing animals to keep its growth in check,” Kilyazova added.
She also noted that pastures should be used according to their intended purpose.
