A man suspected of setting his wife on fire is not an employee of the Talas city administration.

This was reported to Turmush by the information service of the Talas city administration.

“Previously, the suspect worked (from July 15 to December 22, 2025) at the municipal enterprise ‘Zhashyl Charba’ under the administration,” the statement said.

Earlier, the Bakai-Ata district labor department reported that the 32-year-old husband of the victim works at the Talas city administration and also suffered minor burns.

As reported by the press service of the Talas region police department, on February 5, 2026, M.T., born in 1998, filed a complaint with the Lenin District Police Department in Bishkek. In her statement, she reported that on October 15, 2025, in the Bakai-Ata district of the Talas region, at the house where she resides, her husband D.Z., born in 1994, for no reason initiated a conflict, kicked her out, then poured flammable liquid over her and set her on fire. As a result, M.T. suffered serious bodily harm and, according to her, concealed the incident for a long time and did not inform anyone.

According to the regional police, on the day of the incident — October 15, 2025, information was received from a district police officer about a fire in one of the houses in the serviced area. The information was registered in the crime report log.

During the initial investigation, witnesses were interviewed. According to them, while heating the stove, the fire did not flare up, after which gasoline was sprayed, flames erupted, and the spouses sustained burns. At that time, M.T. and D.Z. were taken to the intensive care unit, but due to their serious condition, they could not be interrogated.

Later, the victim did not inform her relatives and law enforcement agencies about the fact of domestic violence. A forensic medical examination was appointed for the couple regarding this case.

Thus, on February 5, 2026, M.T. filed a statement again and indicated that the incident was a result of domestic violence: according to her, her husband intentionally poured flammable liquid on her and set her on fire. In connection with the newly discovered circumstances, an additional investigation has been initiated.

A criminal case has been initiated on this matter under Article 130, Part 2, Clause 1 (“Causing serious bodily harm”) of the Criminal Code. The suspect D.Z. has been placed in a temporary detention facility.
