The Ministry of Agriculture plans to install a drip irrigation system on 200,000 hectares of land over the next 5 years.

- During the plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 11, 2026, deputy Aysarkan Abdibaeva addressed representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture with a question about what steps are being taken to ensure irrigation water in conditions of water scarcity.

In response, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers — Minister of Agriculture Bakyt Torobaev stated that the ministry is actively monitoring the situation and establishing consumption limits for irrigation water for each region based on analysis.

He also reported that the ministry's plans for the next five years include the implementation of a drip irrigation system on 200,000 hectares of land.

“As long as we do not switch to drip irrigation, the problem of irrigation water shortage will remain relevant. It is necessary to transition to modern irrigation methods,” he noted.

The deputy added that in 2025, farmers from Aksy and Kerben faced a shortage of irrigation water, which negatively affected yields.

She suggested considering the issue of holding officials accountable for the losses incurred by farmers.

Currently, information from the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic was discussed regarding preparations for spring field and economic activities in 2026 in the country.
