These short, captivating series made up of minute-long episodes have been becoming increasingly popular in recent years. Now Hollywood is also taking notice of them.
If you are not yet familiar with vertical dramas, that is likely to change soon. These short formats have proven to attract the attention of not only viewers but also industry professionals.
Last year, Jana Vinograd, former head of Showtime, announced the creation of MicroCo, a studio focused on vertical dramas. She noted that she was amazed by the number of talented people who reached out to her. Two months prior, Bill Block, former head of Miramax, launched GammaTime, promising original micro-dramas from CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker.
According to vertical drama consultant Jen Cooper, "every Hollywood studio you can imagine is involved in this project or testing it." On the Actor’s Access platform, 90% of job postings for American actors pertain to vertical projects. Against the backdrop of stagnation in the entertainment industry, vertical dramas are becoming one of the few sectors experiencing real growth, with revenues increasing by 8000% compared to the previous year, as reported by Deadline.
