A group of scientists and politicians asked Japarov to hold early presidential elections

A group of activists addressed the speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh

A group of 75 individuals, including scientists, former prime ministers, former deputies, and public figures, sent a letter to President Sadyr Japarov and the speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, requesting the holding of new presidential elections. The signatories believe that this needs to be done without delay.

The letter emphasizes that the current president was elected in 2021 according to the old Constitution. However, in April of the same year, a new Constitution was approved in a referendum, which clearly establishes the presidential term at five years. The Law "On the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic," which came into effect on May 5, 2021, clarifies the terms of the president's powers and the conditions for running for this position. Article 3, paragraph 1 of this law states that "The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, elected in 2021 for six years, exercises his powers according to the Constitution, and this term is considered the first under the current Constitution."

The letter also raises disagreements among lawyers and politicians: some believe that early elections are the only way out of the current situation, while others suggest waiting for the end of the six-year term.

The initiators are confident that holding early elections will help avoid many legal ambiguities, public discussions, and possible appeals to the Constitutional Court.

The letter also notes the achievements of the current government, including successful resolutions of issues regarding state borders, the fight against corruption and organized crime, as well as positive changes in the social sphere and strengthening the armed forces.

However, among the problems requiring immediate attention, the authors of the letter pointed to the increase in public debt, rising prices, and the migration of the indigenous population.

The signatories conclude that "the first stage of the current leadership of Kyrgyzstan has been completed."

They emphasize the need for new stimulating factors for the country's development and the transition to the second stage of quality work, which serves as the justification for their call for early elections.
