Starting March 20, an agricultural census will begin in Kyrgyzstan.
Baktybek Kudaybergenov, the chairman of the National Statistical Committee, reported that this census will be conducted in electronic format, which implies a complete abandonment of paper documents.
Data will be collected using a mobile application installed on the enumerators' devices and transmitted to the central server of the National Statistical Committee via secure communication channels.
As of now, preliminary work has been completed:
1. All census forms and the list of key indicators have been agreed upon with the relevant agencies and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
2. Four census forms, instructions for workers, and a detailed calendar plan have been approved.
3. In 2024, a pilot census was successfully conducted, which allowed for improvements in software and methodology.
4. In 2025–2026, a multi-stage system for training participants (in-person and online) will be implemented. In the first stage, over 200 specialists have upgraded their qualifications.
To conduct the census nationwide, 6,791 temporary workers will be recruited, including:
- 1,179 registrars;
- 4,494 enumerators;
- 898 supervisor-instructors;
- 220 coordinators.
The schedule for staff recruitment has already been approved: coordinators will begin their work in February 2026, while the main staff (instructors and enumerators) will start in March-April.
“The agricultural census is an important tool for developing an objective food security strategy. We aim to obtain the most accurate data on the agricultural potential of the country for effective planning of farmer support programs,” emphasized members of the Republican Commission.
By the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, the census will take place from March 20 to April 10, 2026.
