In Kyrgyzstan, an increase in the area of crops for obtaining a second harvest is planned. This was reported by Turatbek Idrisov, head of the department for implementing solutions in crop production and horticulture at the Ministry of Agriculture, on the radio.

According to Idrisov, the practice has already confirmed the effectiveness of obtaining a second harvest.

He noted that winter wheat, sown in the fall, is harvested by the end of May to early July. The full harvest will be completed in July in both the southern regions and in the Chui region. After that, farmers begin to sow a second crop in the same fields.

In particular, after harvesting wheat in the Chui region, agrarians plant beets, cabbage, and corn for silage. These crops manage to yield a harvest by autumn, so a second collection can be obtained in September-October.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, last year the area allocated for the second harvest was over 5,500 hectares. This year, it is planned to increase these areas. Previously, the sowing of the second harvest in the Chui region was limited, but last year it was expanded to 7,000-8,000 hectares.

The key issue remains the provision of irrigation water. With sufficient water resources, the results of obtaining a second harvest are positive.
