The Ministry of Agriculture is testing new varieties and implementing modern irrigation systems to increase yields
One of the key measures is the introduction of new varieties of agricultural crops that are undergoing testing. Special attention is given to those varieties that are resistant to drought and heat. These crops are planted in experimental plots to assess their response to conditions with a lack of moisture or at high temperatures, noted Idrisov.
According to him, the same plant species can demonstrate different responses to the frequency of irrigation: three to four irrigations during the growing season yield one result, while one to two irrigations yield a completely different one.
Last year, oilseed crops imported from the USA were tested, including the "Montana" variety, which showed promising results. This year, it is planned to increase the areas allocated for these crops.
Throughout the republic, more than 300 different seeds and seedlings are being tested, including high-yielding varieties of winter crops obtained through an agreement with the Russian Lukyanovsky Institute.
Work is also actively underway to adapt varieties to the country's climatic conditions, prepare and train young specialists in the field of breeding, as well as promote certified seeds.
Idrisov emphasized that the use of quality certified seeds is one of the fundamental factors affecting high yield. He recommends that farmers choose proven seeds rather than any available on the market.
In addition, modern irrigation systems such as drip and sprinkler irrigation are being implemented. Experience from the last two to three years shows that using these methods can increase yield by 1.5 to 2 times. At the agro-dialogue, farmers confirmed that the best yield results were achieved by those who used drip irrigation.
