On March 16, 2026, at a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, which deals with issues of agricultural policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection, deputy Alisher Kozyuev raised the question of the existing volume of medicinal plants in Kyrgyzstan.

In response to his inquiry, it was reported that such herbs as valerian, sage, arnebia, ferula, and saffron grow in the country.

Kozyuev also clarified whether an ordinary farmer could engage in their cultivation or if permission was required for that. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Mirbek Duyusheev confirmed that all willing farmers could grow medicinal plants.

The deputy expressed doubt that mass cultivation of such plants would lead to negative consequences for the soil. In response, he was told that no ecological harm was expected.

On that day, the draft law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Kyrgyz Republic (to the Laws of the Kyrgyz Republic 'On the Protection and Use of Plant Life' and 'On the Development of Agriculture in the Kyrgyz Republic')" was also discussed (2nd reading).
