Kyrgyzstan to Attract 1.5 Billion Yen from Japan for Energy Sector Development. Law Signed

President Sadyr Japarov signed a law ratifying the exchange of notes between the government of Kyrgyzstan and Japan regarding a project to strengthen the training center responsible for the operation and maintenance of the electrical grid in the country. These documents, signed on December 12, 2025, in Bishkek, also include a grant agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The law adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh, dated February 26, 2026, initiates the internal procedures necessary for the agreement to come into force.
Under this agreement, Japan will provide Kyrgyzstan with a grant of 1,535,000,000 (one billion five hundred thirty-five million) Japanese yen. These funds will be used to modernize the training base of the Training Center of the Open Joint Stock Company "National Electric Grid of Kyrgyzstan." The aim of these investments is to improve the training and retraining of specialists in the field of electric power, which will ensure the reliable and sustainable operation of the country's electrical grids.
