The Japanese government has announced the provision of grant assistance to Kyrgyzstan in the amount of 6.845 billion Japanese yen, which is equivalent to approximately 44 million US dollars. This information was announced by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

On December 12, a ceremony for the signing of exchange notes took place at the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan between the Japanese Ambassador to the country, Hiroshi Ryuichi, and the Minister of Finance, Almaz Baketaev, regarding this assistance, which will be implemented within the framework of four grant projects.

Grant agreements were also signed with the participation of the JICA Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan, Nishigata Kotaro, and Minister of Finance Almaz Baketaev.

The signed documents aim to implement important projects in areas such as energy, transport infrastructure, healthcare, and human capital development, including the following initiatives:

Strengthening the capacity of the training center for the operation and maintenance of electric networks in Kyrgyzstan. The project, costing 1.535 billion Japanese yen (~10 million US dollars), aims to enhance the qualifications of technical specialists, implement energy-saving technologies, and strengthen the country's energy security. Reconstruction of the bridge over the Naryn River on the Bishkek–Osh highway, which will contribute to improving transport connectivity with the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. For the implementation of this project, 3.19 billion Japanese yen (~20 million US dollars) has been allocated. Modernization of medical equipment in referral hospitals in the southern regions of Kyrgyzstan. For these purposes, 1.801 billion Japanese yen (~12 million US dollars) is planned. The project aims to equip the Osh Interregional Unified Clinical Hospital and the Osh Oncology Center with modern medical equipment. An economic and social development program, including the allocation of 319 million Japanese yen (~2 million US dollars), aims to develop human capital, including providing the Kyrgyz-Japanese Center for Human Development (KRJC) with modern equipment for ICT education and research. "The signing of these grant agreements and exchange notes confirms the strong partnership between Japan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as the shared commitment to supporting sustainable development and strengthening key sectors of the country through ongoing cooperation," JICA commented.
