The governments of Switzerland and Kyrgyzstan have signed an agreement to launch the project "Permit System for Water Use in the Kyrgyz Republic," as reported by the press service of the Swiss embassy.

For the implementation of this project, 2.2 million Swiss francs will be allocated, which is equivalent to over 2.7 million US dollars. These funds are aimed at supporting the sustainable and rational use of water resources in the country.

This project aligns with the recently adopted Water Code, which establishes the permit system as the main tool for regulating water resource management.

Switzerland plans to assist the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan in creating a regulatory framework for the implementation of this system. As a result, water management authorities will be able to establish mandatory standards and norms, as well as monitor compliance with these requirements by water users. Such a system will ensure effective accounting of water resources.

The implementation of the project is scheduled for the period from 2025 to 2028.
