In Kyrgyzstan, following the administrative-territorial reform, which resulted in the creation of 34 cities and 230 rural areas, serious problems have arisen related to staff shortages and high workloads on local administrations. This was stated in an interview with the radio by Akim Keneshbekov, a leading specialist in the regional development policy management.
Keneshbekov noted that after the consolidation of regions, the number of employees significantly decreased, while the volume of tasks performed and the distances between populated areas increased, making the fulfillment of official duties more challenging.

At the same time, he reported that some of the identified problems are already being addressed. In particular, by the president's order, the positions of deputy head of the rural administration and responsible secretary were separated in regions with a population of over 10,000 people.

Additionally, a decision has been made to introduce the position of village elder in each village. It is also expected that in the near future, there will be a salary increase for local government employees, and relevant decisions are planned to be made based on the results of the first half of the year.

Keneshbekov added that the problematic issues arising from the reform will be directed to the Cabinet of Ministers and relevant state authorities for further resolution.
