The Unobvious Reason for Frequent Headaches Revealed

A study conducted by Turkish scientists revealed that a deficiency of magnesium in the diet may lead to more intense headaches and increased stress levels. These findings were published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition (Front Nutr).

As part of the study, 150 participants aged 19 to 65 completed questionnaires regarding their diet and underwent assessments of the impact of headaches on their daily lives (HIT-6) and stress levels (PSS-10). Additionally, the researchers analyzed how often magnesium-rich foods were present in their diets.

The results showed that participants with low magnesium intake exhibited significantly higher scores on the headache scale. This indicates that such headaches significantly interfered with their work and daily life. At the same time, the stress level in this group was found to be higher, although the difference was less pronounced. Interestingly, as magnesium intake increased, both headache scores and subjective stress levels decreased.

The authors emphasize that magnesium plays an important role in the functioning of the nervous system, and its deficiency may increase sensitivity to stress and pain sensations.
