At the National Center for Oncology and Hematology, more than 35 thousand patients are currently registered. The director of this institution, Nurbek Bukuev, announced this information during the "Elden Sobol" program on the "Kabar" agency.
According to him, up to 6,500 new cases of the disease are recorded each year. Almost half of the patients die within the first year after diagnosis.
“The main reason for the high mortality rate is the delayed visit to a doctor. Many people are unaware that they have cancer or do not undergo necessary examinations, which leads to the progression of the disease. Currently, four stages of cancer are identified. More than 50% of patients seek help when the disease is at stages 3–4, which significantly complicates treatment. Therefore, most of them do not survive to the end of the first year after diagnosis. However, such statistics are not only characteristic of Kyrgyzstan; global data shows similar trends. Every year, about 600 thousand new cases of cancer are registered worldwide, of which approximately 350 thousand result in death within the first year,” emphasized Nurbek Bukuev.
