The President of Azerbaijan emphasized that the continuation of the conflict would only lead to endless suffering and new casualties. "Someone had to stop the war, and we made the decision to do so," Aliyev noted.
According to him, the cessation of military confrontation was the result of a joint decision reached on August 8, 2025, in Washington during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and U.S. President Donald Trump. The President added that the agreements reached are already beginning to yield tangible results.
Ilham Aliyev also noted that hopes for mediation by international organizations during the conflict were not justified, and the UN Security Council resolutions demanding the withdrawal of Armenian troops from Nagorno-Karabakh were not fulfilled. He reported that relations with Armenia have transitioned to a stage of cooperation, which includes lifting barriers for cargo transit and supplying strategically important goods, such as petroleum products, to Yerevan.
