Without prior boiling
According to Keneshbek Akmatov, the head of the water supply service "Bishkekvodokanal," it is allowed to drink tap water in Bishkek without boiling.
He explained that the capital is supplied with drinking water from 36 wells located within the city, as well as 18 wells at the "Bashkara-Suu" water intake.
Every day, the city receives between 19 to 20 tons of water.
“The artesian water is supplied from a depth of 200 meters and undergoes additional purification. Chlorine is used at 12 water intakes, while the others use bactericidal units, similar to lamps used in hospitals, which treat the water,” Akmatov added.
The quality of water in Bishkek is monitored daily by a specialized laboratory.
“I personally drink tap water. Everyone decides for themselves whether they need filters. Our water is safe to drink without boiling,” he noted.
