From January 1 to 19, 2026, 295 people sought help at the trauma center of the Sports Rehabilitation Center due to injuries caused by ice and snowfall. In 227 cases, doctors diagnosed fractures, while 68 patients were found to have bruises and sprains. All patients with fractures received plaster casts.
Doctors emphasize that falls on slippery sidewalks, stairs, and pedestrian crossings remain the main cause of injuries. They urge residents of the city to be especially cautious in icy conditions and not to rush.
Specialists recommend moving slowly, paying close attention to one's feet, and taking breaks to assess the situation if necessary. Feet should be kept slightly bent, and the torso should be leaned forward. Keeping hands in pockets can increase the risk of injury in case of a fall, so it is advisable to avoid this. Elderly people are advised to use a cane with a rubber tip for better stability.
Medical professionals also remind everyone of the importance of staying away from the roadway and avoiding areas near buildings where icicles may fall. Streets should only be crossed at pedestrian crossings and with maximum caution.
