In Bishkek, from January 1 to January 19, 2026, 295 cases of seeking medical assistance related to injuries due to snowfall and icy conditions have been registered, according to the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic and the emergency department of the Sports Rehabilitation Center. Among these cases, 227 patients were diagnosed with fractures, while 68 individuals sought help for bruises and sprains. All those injured with fractures were provided with plaster casts.
According to medical experts, the main cause of injuries is falls on slippery sections of sidewalks, stairs, and pedestrian crossings. In this regard, citizens are strongly advised to exercise increased caution when moving in icy conditions.
“When moving on slippery surfaces, one should not rush or make sudden movements. It is important to carefully watch your feet, and if necessary, stop and look around. It is recommended to slightly bend your knees and lean your body forward. Keeping your hands in your pockets is dangerous, as it reduces stability in case of a fall. Elderly people are advised to use a cane with a rubber tip,” emphasize the medical professionals.
It is also advisable to avoid moving near the roadway whenever possible and to stay away from building walls where icicles may form. When crossing the road, it is essential to be extremely cautious and to cross the roadway only at designated places,” the specialists added.
